Group History |

The Group started life as the Shropshire & Mid Wales Health & Safety Group and has been in existence for almost 35 years promoting good practice in the workplace with emphasis on Health & Safety increasing as legislation has changed. More recently the Group changed its' name to “The Marches ..." to make it a snappier title. The Fire Panel had also existed for many years but had lapsed until the Chief Fire Officer of Shropshire resurrected it a few years ago with a recruiting drive. The Health and Safety Group held regular meetings whereas the Fire Safety Panel placed more emphasis on short courses on Fire Safety topics. Some years ago both Groups realised the benefits of merging. Many organisations were members of both, the aims of both groups were very similar and a single group would simplify administration and organisation and a wider spectrum of topics could be covered with less disruption of members' time. In January 1993, at the Annual General Meeting, the merger was confirmed and both Groups became one and the “…Health, Safety & Fire Group” was born. |
